Allium amethystinum 'Red Mohican'

You might recall I posted a pic of this last week, before it developed its amazing shape.... Allium 'Red Mohican' - flowers later than the bigger Alliums. The rising florets start to form a silvery shimmer on them. It's one of my favourite Alliums 😊 #allium #alliumredmohican

Allium 'Red Mohican' is exactly that - just when you think the bloom is about fully open, the middle florets start to rise way higher than the surrounding ones, creating this 'mohican' effect. It is a bit @16540210 - not grown this variety before but I think it does eventually straighten out. I've got another one doing a similar thing 🤔

I'm surprised it's still standing Pearl what with the recent winds, tough old things though. I'm more amazed how long the buds are, never seen them like this before. @fuschia

They look similar to my "hairy" alliums, foliage looks a bit non plus I'm sure the flower looks up to it. I hope 🤗

Last one tonight. This is a relatively new Allium, which has a unique tufted flower head. Lovely wine red colour with a white mohican crest 🤓. Planted 14th November.

So am I Joan, some wonderful plants I have now. Just hope I can keep them alive and going through Jan/Feb. All looking good at moment. The mini cloches are working great 😀👍🏼 @joanboston

@mojo it's tempting Mo, but I'd have to hide off the remainder of the jungle. It's great to have the space to fit all these plants, but a lot of it does get left to the 'natural look' cause of time etc. Maybe I could have a 'bring a shovel' open day 😂

Great idea Rich, 👍. Just chuck some wildflower seeds over the rest and it will look just like Highgrove House natural garden. 😂

Pleased the mini cloches are working. Not sure they would have survived the winds we have had recently!
