Just checking in… I’ve been preoccupied with some pre-Christmas decorating as I’ve got family coming to stay. Lots of painting currently! But whilst sitting now just having a break I noticed my Aspidistra is flowering! Two have emerged but I couldn’t get them both in on the same close up. The flowers just sit at soil level so they don’t do anymore than this. Hopefully back a bit more soon once the decorating eases a bit!

That’s fascinating! Good idea to decorate now, you don’t want to be doing it when you can be out in the garden!

Unusual spotty Aspidistra, which was a a gift from @HG01 earlier this year. It’s already starting to send up some new leaves after I repotted into a narrow deep pot. It also had flowers down at soil level but they have now gone. The roots are big 👍🏼 #aspidistra #castironplant #aspidistradaibuensisyuliyummy #aspidistra-daibuensis #aspidistradaibuensis

It’s a #houseplant at the moment but I’m planning to put it outside in a sheltered spot for summer. They are actually quite hardy as long as it’s not too wet apparently - a few plant collectors are now growing them in their gardens all year round

What a wonderfully tonal composition of medium-dark leaves against a slate-gray background. The subtle lighting brings out every detail and highlights the spotting even more. Bravo 👏🏻 📸 🌱

Thank you very much @mn-5a , I took a few photos in different spots and concluded it was hard to pick up the spots, so I tried it against my living room wall and it looked perfect 😊

Huh. First time to encounter the name "Yuli Yummy". This may be the cultivar I have, ha ha

😄 it’s name is extraordinary! My friend who gifted this holds the National UK collection of Aspidistra elatior and cultivars, and one other species I can’t remember, but he collects others too. I think there are a few spotty ones, I’m not good at identifying them but he runs a FB Aspidistra group. He went to US last year for research into Aspidistra at Plant Delights Nursery, have you heard of them? @misternatureboy
