Now that didn’t take long 😃 - you can see why you have to buy them quickly at the right window in the season. These colchicum bulbs were planted just over two weeks ago. First flowers already coming through 👍🏼 #colchicum-autumnale #colchicum #colchicumautumnalealbum #meadowsaffron

Gorgeous Rich, I managed to get some at the Harrogate show a couple of weeks ago, but they were ready made so to speak and flowering 💕💕

First of my autumn bulbs planted - I’m trying a few colchicums, the window for buying them is quite small so if you want to try them you best get them soon and plant them immediately as they will quickly flower. I’ve read they flower before leaves and roots form so I’m not going to water these in and will just let the natural rain get to them. I’ve planted in a well drained fertile soil mixed with a bit of compost #colchicum #colchicum-autumnale #colchicumautumnalealbum #meadowsaffron #bulb

Yes, Monty said in GW 2 weeks ago that colchicum bulbs should be bought within the next week to get the flowers this year. 👍👍

One of mine is just breaking the surface, no sign of the other yet. You literally just get flowers no leaves at all. The leaves come in spring and are quite messy but worth it. Good luck Richard!

Hope so Lexi - I’d also bought one in spring while in leaf but never saw it flower so will be delighted to see all of them in flower @lexijane

They had some bulbs on the stand at the Wisley flower show last week that were already sprouting before they had even been planted. I don’t think they they hang about when they are ready 😊 @ublaszko

That’s what I heard too Joan - and apparently the leaves are a magnet for slugs and snails. I’m trying them in pots this year as where I’d like to plant them is not ready yet and so I can hide the pot for a while after the flowers have faded @joanboston

It’s always the way Jane, and easily forgotten - I don’t think the Garden Centres get many in so they usually sell quite quickly. I got mine at the Wisley flower show last week @pelly

Very nice @jpea - they the Yellow ones right? I haven’t tried them before, so will have to watch yours with interest 😄👍🏼. I’ve got some others still to plant too, mostly anemones, Muscari and camassia - how about you?
