Evening 👋🏼 had a busy couple of days planting at work and I pulled a muscle in my neck 🙄 nothing serious, but a bit sore when I bend my neck down slightly. Hoping it fixes itself in a couple of days. It’s a bit better today, so 🤞🏼. These are my fav crocus I think, lovely colour and a large flower 💜🤍

Lovely colour Richard💜. Hope the neck improves, mine’s never been the same after a spin on the waltzers the year I turned 40, had to wear a neck brace it elicited the response from my husband: “Well, what did you expect at your age…” still not grown up😂

Aw thanks Julie 😘 I hope it doesn’t effect you too much. It’s not exactly a nice place to have that kind of pain although I imagine it’s not nice in any of your joints. Mine is almost clear now, deep heat has helped a lot. Fingers crossed it will be back to normal by end of weekend 🤞🏼 @juliesgarden

😂, we never grow up I think! The neck is almost better, just slight sensation every now and again. The waltzers can be quite a rough ride, I always felt sick after coming off one 😂 sounds like you had a bad one if you had to wear a neck brace😬 @Auricula

Thanks Cherie! It’s got a very pale outer petals and then when they open they show these beautiful inner petals 🤩 @cheriej

04/03/19 - Crocus Update - ‘Vanguard’, emerges with very pale outer tepals, and then opens up to reveal the inner lavender petals, with bright luminous orange stigmas and lighter orange anthers. Quite a large flower compared to a number of other cultivars 👌🏼 #crocus #crocusvernusvanguard #crocus-vernus #crocusvernus

No idea what happened to the leaves of this lone crocus bloom, Crocus 'Vanguard' - probably some damage below ground, but the other bulbs are emerging fine. No idea what the orange bits are either, but I know they are getting taller. Possibly stigmas from another flower which has been partially eaten? Who knows 🤷🏼‍♂️ alas this bulb will most certainly suffer later without any leaves #crocus #crocusvernusvanguard #crocus-vernus #crocusvernus

I like this variety the way the outer petals are this sort of powdery violet 💜💜💜 I wonder if this is the same variety as the ones I saw at the university. Does it have small flowers like crocus chrysanthus or slightly larger like Joan of Arc?

6w
comment
richard.spicer.7906

Crazy eh? 😂 although I reckon the leaves won’t come through now, it’s quite unusual for these types of Crocus, although you can get autumn flowering Crocus that always do that. @rzgonsalves

They are somewhere between small and large 😂 - here is the full effect, as shown in last years display. A number of shops miss sell these ( I bought them from three well known places and got something completely different! ) - the pic in the encyclopaedia is also wrong as it shows instead one of the striped cultivars and not Vanguard @ublaszko

6w
comment
ublaszko

Now it all makes sense. 😄 So this one and the one I found at the university is 'Vanguard'. The striped one looks like 'Pickwick'. I remember the striped one is quite big but I actually prefer smaller varieties so 'Vanguard' would still count 😆😆

6w
comment
richard.spicer.7906

There are two very similar striped ones - Pickwick and King of Striped. The difference is dependent on whether all petals are striped, or if some are solid on the inside I think @ublaszko

I had to get some new bulbs of this one two years ago, as the mice had eaten the old ones, but the replacements turned out to be a different variety. So another attempt this year and so far so good. Hoping this weeks scheduled rain doesn’t cause a washout! #crocus #crocus-vernus #crocusvernusvanguard
