Cyclamen confusum - autumn flowering, taken three months ago, but never posted. All the flowers are gone now, but the foliage is coming through nicely - so glad I managed to repot all the cyclamen before they began emerging back at the end of summer #flashbackfriday

Aw, thanks Angie! I do love a Cyclamen 😍 - there are two types, those that produce flowers first then foliage, and then those that produce foliage then flowers @angiie

Thanks Jane 😊 - was hoping to get some seed from this one but looks like the hand pollination failed as the flower just shrivelled up and wilted - no classic pig tail curling that you see after cyclamen has flowered ☹️ oh well, always next year I suppose @pelly

Lovely isn’t it Sue? Only got a few flowers this year, but I’m hoping the new pots give the tubers room to grow and it will be a beauty next year @suerichards

More interesting foliage forms of Cyclamen species. This is a naturally occurring variety confusum of the species Cyclamen hederifolium (naturally occurring varieties are referred to as ‘var.’ in the botanical name, and are always written in Latin rather than English). Quite a deep green with a bold and contrasting pattern on each leaf #foliage #cyclamen #cyclamen-hederifolium #cyclamenhederifoliumvarconfusum

It is found in the wild next to the normal form of Cyclamen hederifolium in Crete. It has very fragrant rose pink flowers prior to the foliage coming so I won’t see these in flower now till later next year I think.

Have you been shopping over holidays? 😉😉 I love this variety, it's quite subtle compared to cyclamen coum if my memory doesn't fail me.

Haha, these are purchases I made at beginning of month when I went to Ashwoods. Got a couple more to add which I’ll prob do over the next few days. It’s a lovely one isn’t it? 😊 @ublaszko

It really is! And between these and cyclamen coum you got the autumn and winter colour sorted 👍👍 Are you going to keep them in pots or eventually move them in your woodland area?

I’d like to keep one of each species in a clay pot, so this one will be moved soon. But next year if I get seed (either true or hybridised) then I’ll sow them in the woodland area 😁 - already have about 60 or so seedlings in plugs which should be ready to pot on soon (mostly coum, bit of cilicium, and some of coum pewter group). They can hybridise as much as they like in the woodland space 😄👍🏼 @ublaszko

Have you been tempted to try and hybridise some yourself? 😆😆 I tried cross pollinating my aquilegias this year but every time I tried to get the petals off I damaged the female or male bits and eventually I run out of flowers 😂😂 I need to get some tweezers and magnifying glass or something 😅

I sowed some seeds back in may/June time of these. I put some in pots and some I sprinkled around some boarders. The ones in pots never grew, but only the other day when I was clearing the boarders I noticed the seeds I sprinkled had grown into plants. But I don't understand how they can grow out doors but not in doors?

Oops 🙊🙈 , yes I imagine they are quite delicate. I’ve not tried my own before, I could certainly try with aquilegia as I’ve plenty of those and they pop up all over the place, I tend to let them do their own thing. Might try snowdrops one day, but won’t to get bigger clumps first of my current ones. @ublaszko

That’s a shame Ruth @pottyplot - I sowed my seed only indoors and they all come up. Although they were in complete darkness for 8-12 weeks in the cupboard. They may have needed a bit longer perhaps? Did you have them down indoors for long? (I’ll tag you in one of my pics for cyclamen seed)
