Flower stem forming on Eucomis comosa ‘Oakhurst’ - interestingly there is no leaf crown? 🤔😮 not sure if that is unique to this cultivar or if something has eaten it! #eucomis #eucomiscomosaoakhurst #eucomis-comosa #pineapplelily

I got mine from tropical Britain, and actually he has some back in stock at a good price 😀 - I do recall now that sometimes late autumn and early winter is a good time to get some. If you do get it now, just keep it in a pot of old compost till spring (no water) to stop it drying out too quickly, then pot it in fresh compost in the spring. He’s got sparkling burgundy back in too so I might treat myself with a replacement for my eaten one! @awomanonabike

Another pineapple lily - ‘Oakhurst’ - thought to be similar to ‘Sparkling Burgundy’ but the flowers are more greenish. I do love a Pineapple Lily 🍍 - #eucomis #eucomis-comosa #eucomiscomosaoakhurst #pineapplelily

I think people either love them or hate them. I can’t get enough of them 😂 @clipperty @rachelbrooks - looks like Claudia’s is beating the starting gun compared to yours Rach, but I wouldn’t worry too much. They are the slowest bulbs to get going, really have a good old snooze over winter and take forever to wake up. If the bulb is near the surface, try to keep it in a light warm place to get them going, no need to water till you see the tiny shoot, and then water sparingly at first.

Then increase as leave/roots start to grow. I was a bit surprised this bulb had so much growth already, as my others are only just starting to wake up in the polytunnel.

Yep I remember you saying last year when I got them Rich. Followed your advice to a tee and they all grew and produced lots of leaves, enough to give Claude one as well, but no flowers. Was their first year though so maybe this year hey? 😬🤞🏼

richard.spicer.7906

Yeah, that sounds right. First year settling in, second year flowering. I don't think I've had a pineapple Lily that flowered in the first year, although I'm sure it's possible. Did you keep it in its pot or dig up/replant it? @rachelbrooks

7w
comment
rachelbrooks

That gives me hope then Rich! Just left them in the pot 😏 should I repot them dyou think? 🤔

7w
comment
richard.spicer.7906

Nope, that will be fine. I will repot every 3 years. You can top dress if you like but I would wait till it wakes up. When in full growth you can start to feed them too 👍🏼😊 @rachelbrooks
