Hey Jacqueline, soz for late reply - been out all day. Indeed I did have have this one, but actually threw it away a couple of weeks ago as the bulb didn’t produce much leaf this year and when I dug it up it had pest damage unfortunately. I’m gonna get a new one in spring. However, there is a similar one called ‘Oakhurst’ which I have too which looked amazing this year. Similar leaf colour. I’ll tag you both @awomanonabike @rachelbrooks

Thanks Richard (& no need to apologise), that would be great. Where did you get them from? I’ve not heard of ‘Oakhurst’ but would love to give it a go. They are so rewarding

I have dug this bulb up a couple of times this year as I had feared it may have gone rotten in its pot. Fortunately, it's still alive and now waking up! ⏲ it's alright, you take your time it's only almost August 😂😀🌱

I'm having a giggle to myself I frequently do the same with bulbs, tubers and rhizomes especially this rain soaked summer. My pineapple lilies are doing well in the ground&so was my new potted 1s until I discovered yesterday dreaded🐌🐌have got their gnashers into them. Disappointed doesn't describe it as they are 10 mixed&they have different coloured leaves&patterns. Was getting excited about what they would look like. Each pot had at least 1 slug on the bottom most had two or even 4 😡🐌

Thanks @Keely - I know they have a reputation for being late to wake, but am quite surprised how late this is. Hoping it makes up some time 😂

A Pineapple Lily (Eucomis) - this one is not your typical green leafed variety, and as the name suggests it has red-burgundy young foliage which slowly change to olive green. Purple starry flowers in summer. These need winter protection and I will grow them in pots this year rather than the ground (but you can do either - I would just make sure you lift in October before the frosts arrive) 🤓

#bulbs planted 5th March. Normal compost with a few handfuls of hort grit mixed in to help improve drainage.

They are quite slow to wake up @Hut123456789 so I wouldn't expect too much at the moment and hopefully nothing to worry about. But prob do not water it any more for now. I've just given mine only a couple of small drinks in the whole of March to just ensure the soil doesn't get bone dry. Do you have it in a pot?

@Richard.spicer.7906 Look forward to seeing this purple flower. I've had Eucomis for years and leave them in the ground over winter. I usually put a bell cloche or square water bottle over them when they die down. I've 2 clumps. 1 the usual green the other was bought as mixed so some of them have a pinky tinge but certainly not as deep as purple. Exciting new variety.

Yes, hopefully @angipangi - I have high hopes for this one 😁. I've got Eucomis bicolour too which I grown both in pots and the ground. I decided to change to pots as I wasn't quite happy with what to do with the plant after it finished flowering and it got quite big but just leave. So I've put them all in display pots this year. I'm looking for the normal Eucomis comosa too but will have to order it online now.

Stick your finger into the soil a couple of inches and see if the dryness goes all the way through. If it does, perhaps give it a light watering. After bulbs have been left dormant and dry over winter, watering should be normally be introduced slowly and then gradually increase the frequency as the bulb emerges. @Hut123456789
