Ok, I've calmed down a little after #snailgate . Elsewhere in the garden - as you can see this overgrown Forsythia was desperately needing a prune - a bit (!) top heavy and blocking the rain getting to the plants underneath. Best time to prune this shrub is straight after flowering as flowers are born on previous seasons growth - that way you can allow the plant to recover for the rest of this growing season and hopefully it will flower again next year. I pruned it exactly one month ago today.

Wow what an outstanding specimen. Want one of these this year 🍃🍃

It's lovely @Cazx when it's in flower, and also in the autumn this one has lovely red foliage which glows nicely in the sun. Can't remember if all Forsythia do that or if it's only certain varieties. 🤔

Morning 😀 how did Monday come round so quickly??? Spring was definitely in the air this weekend - the Forsythia buds were giving off that #yellow glow in the sunshine.

Morning Jan - glad your having a good day so far. Was a bit cloudy when I left home, but sunny in London. Wish I was back home in garden though. @janric

Morning Christine - hope the sun stays out for you today 👍🏼 @christineb

I love your photos @richard.spicer.7906 you really do Capture the beauty of your shots. 🙂

Cheers James 😀 great to hear you like them, and thanks for the feedback. Hope you had a super weekend. Have you got any interesting projects your working on at the moment over in Jersey? @GREENFINGERSLTD

Just tree felling after the winter winds, game shooting and a few landscaping projects. But weather is improving so lads are back on the round. This year is a big Competition parish in bloom, Britain in Bloom so preparation starts now need to do bigger and better. I love the challenge @richard.spicer.7906

How's it up north @richard.spicer.7906

Evening all, I had the day off work today so that I could catch up with the garden. Lots of digging and clearing going on. Whilst I was out there, noticed the Forsythia is turning a lovely claret colour for #autumn .

Gorgeous colour Rich @richard.spicer.7906

And this is it today - lots of #newgrowth 😁 . I took 50% off the height this year, as last time I tried this (in another garden) I cut back too hard in one go and it was a disaster. Lesson learnt, so next year I will prune further again to get the ideal shape. I did also take out any stems which were dead or damaged straight out from the base of the plant. 👍🏼
That's what I like to see Richard, lovely new growth! I've just bought and planted a small forsythia and can't wait for it to grow😊
@maureen1951 I've bought a cheap paddling pool and I'm going to put some water in it and put my hanging baskets in it😀
Also helps putting plants in the shade while on holiday.
Excellent Ann 😀👍🏼 I don't think you'll be disappointed. I've got three in total, although I didn't prune one of them as I can't quite reach it yet 😂 @thomasrat3
Good #tips Ann & Mike 👏🏼 @thomasrat3 @mikethegardener @maureen1951
I cut mine back hard this time and it's responded with producing loads of new bud /shoots can hardly wait for next springs flowers now 😀
Excellent @tinastribe 😀 good to hear there is new growth on yours 👍🏼
