Day off today, and weather has been really depressing - cold, foggy, and damp. Was trying to get bulbs planted that were over due but didn’t do half as much as I wanted too. Had a little check up on a few things. These seedlings are from a very special geranium which I collected at work and I really hope they will last through winter in the polytunnel. If it blooms next summer, it will be quite spectacular #geranium #seedling #geraniummaderense #geranium-maderense #madeiracranesbill
Oh that’s interesting 🤔 Do you know if they left the seedlings in or did they weed them out? I’m keen to find out how tolerant it is of the cold weather. The one at work grows under cover. They usually die after they finish flowering in the summer and you treat them like a biennial, but you sometimes get offsets. Although I’ve read those don’t always reflower the following year and it’s better to grow again using new seed. @ublaszko
They were left outside in winter because the estate people don't bother protecting plants from frost or cold weather. They have back up plants in their greenhouse but it seems they were not needed during the past 2-3 years. I'm not sure what they look like this year as I've been working from home since March.

I've seen these growing in gardens around Newcastle University. They're a bit of a thug, self-seeded all over the long border. A riot of colour!
