The name says it all really 👌🏼 smaller than last year, so I’m wondering if this will be its last for a couple of years. Bulblet props I hope 🤞🏼 #iris #iris-reticulata #irisreticulataeyecatcher

I thought I'd cheat and plant some pots up in the greenhouse in Autumn 🙄 They are up but look a long way off flowering. Yours are gorgeous

Thank you Shona 🙏🏼😊 I really hope there is more in this pot, as only one has come up so far. There were 5 or six last year! Hope they haven’t all rotted away @sho47

They’ll look lovely Jayne, can’t wait to see your pics of the. mine are all in pots too, I’ve never planted these in the ground as I always think they look too delicate. And they always seem to open outside when the weather turns nasty! So I keep them in the polytunnel 😊 and then cook them in their over the summer 🤣 @jaynehynesburton

20/02/19 - Dwarf Iris Update - Iris reticulata ‘Eye Catcher’ - one of my favourite of the dwarf iris, flowers usually before the foliage appears and has these lovely blue infused centres with yellow markings on the falls. Simply eye catching 😉👌🏼 #iris #iris-reticulata #irisreticulataeyecatcher

My pot of Iris reticulata 'Eye Catcher' have finally opened. One of my favs 😍💛💙. You can just see in the middle the stray yellow flower of Iris reticulata 'Amazing' which I've been told is a rare chance of finding as some slipped up in circulation and are not actually commercially available yet to my knowledge.

Some pics from my #iris #bulb planting at the weekend. Having tested some other small dwarf flowering bulbs last winter in #pots, I was really pleased with the results of each display. I think the smaller tiny bulbs look much better this way rather than being lost in big borders. This one is a rather nice looking Iris reticulata hybrid, and I've used a John Innes 3 soil based compost with a bit of extra horticultural grit mixed in 🤓 #bulbs-advice #bulbplantingtime #tip #advice-iris #bulbs #iris

Fantastic idea. I didn't think about putting them in pots and just planted out about 100 new bulbs 😩

Mine are going in pots too this year instead of dotted around too much trouble digging them up in summer again and like you said got a bit lost, just putting bluebells and dafs in borders with wallflowers for spring colour 👍

Brilliant information Rich am I right that you have put the grit on top of the compost as well as mixing it in the compost? Could you just enlighten me on that bit please 😊

8w
comment
richard.spicer.7906

Oh no @Hellebore , well not to worry. They will still look great and if you get any more then you can always consider the pot option next time 😉

8w
comment
richard.spicer.7906

I know what you mean @Keely - with all the bulbs in the ground I tend to find it starts becoming a mind field when digging over the soil and then I damage them. I'll reserve the pots for the little ones, and occasionally special ones 😊 (I've got some little daffs in a pot too somewhere 🤔)

8w

richard.spicer.7906

Yes that's right @nessas 👌🏼👍🏼 - the compost I bought already had a little grit in it but I've added a touch of Hort sand and extra grit mixed in, then added the grit on top purely for decorative effect. Although hopefully will help keep snails and slugs at bay too.

@richard.spicer.7906 @keely I've got Iris 'Lady Beatrix Stanley' also done in pots for exactly the same reason. These little gems get lost &/or damaged in the garden.

Ahhh thank you Rich I am doing mine this Friday I do do mine in pots but will add hort sand to them this year and the grit on top thank you for your help 😊👌🏻
