21/02/19 - Dwarf Iris Update - today’s choice is Iris ‘Painted Lady’ which has a thin delicate flower, mostly white but has very light sky blue markings and a smidge of yellow on the falls. Foliage normally I’ve seen growing to same height as flowers, and at the same time (compared it to others where the foliage appears after, and is either taller or shorter than height of flowers) - second year in flower #iris #iris-reticulata #irisreticulatapaintedlady #irisreticulata

Haven’t had time to add many of my Iris pics this year, and many of them have finished now. But here’s a few of them before they finished. Iris reticulata ‘Painted Lady’ #iris #iris-reticulata #irisreticulatapaintedlady

They are stunning Richard. Do you grow them all in pots and leave them year to year? I’ve just transplanted some that I was given in a pot into the garden but not sure I should have done 🤔

I do Jacqueline 😊 - this is my third year growing them like this. Some varieties seem to be fine each year, and others seem like the bulb splits into tiny bulblets and then I don't see much for a couple of years. I think it depends on how they are treated over summer but I haven't quite pinpointed the right summer treatment yet @awomanonabike 🤔 - I think yours in principle should be fine to plant out but just make sure it's in a sunny well drained gritty soil, like in a rock garden?

Builders debris garden?! I’ll keep my fingers crossed but would love to grow some more in pots for next spring 🤔😊

New one for me this year. I bought a few bulbs of this one last autumn having seen it in the shops many times, and can't understand why I never tried it sooner - I love the pastel blue and white markings - Iris reticulata 'Painted Lady' #Iris #iris-reticulata #irisreticulatapaintedlady

Thank you all 😊🙏🏼 everyone should try at least one dwarf iris. I’m still mastering the art of getting them to return the following year in pots, as they can have a habit of rotting over summer or even splitting into tiny bulblets. But practice makes perfect 👍🏼 @jennlamaye @columbiariver @cheshire @drumadixit
