Just checking on some iris bulblets in the polytunnel and some are coming up already. Not sure if I labelled this pot correctly now as this definitely is not what ‘Sunshine’ looked like last year, it was more yellow. So this could either be a result of 1) the pot is mislabelled and has a different cultivar in it, maybe when I was repotting all my iris bulblets a couple of months ago, or 2) the colour has been impacted by an external factor such as environmental, or possibly a genetic mutation.

It’s unlikely to be hybridisation as to get that I would need to get flowers pollinated, have seed produced and sow them to get new bulblets. I deadheaded all my iris last year before seed could have been produced and all my bulblets are taken from the mother bulb which would be exact clones.

It looks remarkably like ‘North Star’ 🤔 which I have in another pot. I’ll have to see what colour those come out like! I’m also generally amazed these are in flower already! #iris #iris-reticulata #irisreticulata

I read your first comment and I'm sure this is not 'Sunshine'. I saved this iris to my wishlist earlier this year and I don't recall the name 'Sunshine'. I think it's North Star as you said in a later comment and I remember that name. Also, this pic looks similar to Google images.

It’s a pretty one...environment can play a big part in colouration, I’ve found, with many different plants. Eeentwestin, innit?! X x 😘 x X
