10/06/19 - propagation updates - same technique using Leaf Bud cuttings, but different Mahonia and one less sharp! 😂 here you can see the dormant bud already emerging and growing on to form a new stem #mahonia #propagation-leafbudcuttings #leafbudcuttings #propagation #propagation-mahonia #mahoniasoftcaress #mahoniaeurybracteatasubspganpinensissoftcaress
I love the look of this mahonia. You have green fingers Richard
Morning Richard......... this all looks very successful........well done mate.......Best regards to St. Albans.........Have a good Tuesday.
Thanks Joan 😊 - It’s quite something isn’t it, I think I could live with this one comfortably without stabbing myself everytime I go near it! And it’s got a lovely flower on it too @joanboston
Thank you John - you too, hope you’ve had a good day too 👍🏼 @johninbrighton
Unfortunately my Mahonia cuttings from 2019 succumbed to rot last summer, which was a shame as they sprouted so well based on my last pic. So I bought this Mahonia in the autumn sales, my Wyevale GC was taken over by Dobies and they were clearing out all the old stock. Was £25, reduced to £2.50 - bargain for such an already big plant. Bit chlorotic but it’s now been repotted so hoping the colour improves.
How did you take your cuttings was it a normal stem or just budd and a tiny bit of stem??
The latter, leaf bud cuttings (on the previous pic) - they were doing well but I struggled with the watering, think I got them too wet. Might try again now that I’ve got a physical plant to experiment with @carolgs
Got to love a bargain Richard!
I thought it was wrongly marked up at first Joan. Almost ran out the store after I paid incase they called me back for more money 😂😂 @joanboston
Oh I just love a good bargain 👌
Probably as you said too wet they looked really healthy cuttings try again this year, soft caress wasn't about when I was doing cuttings, fingers crossed for you
That would be me too Richard! I’ve often looked at this plant but too pricey for me to risk it here
