Morning folks 👋🏼 up early, having some brekkie and ☕️, then I'm off for a spontaneous visit to RHS Wisley. These poppies are looking good, I let them self seed by the front door. #red #poppy

Bora Da and it's a great day for Wales... Love RHS Wisley @richard.spicer.7906 we have quite a few poppies that self seed in the garden, not always in the right places either, but I have not got the ❤️ to pull them up 😊

@pooley , good morning too 👋🏼😀 - indeed, great result ⚽️👏🏼. I just let the poppies do their own thing, as they don't seem to bother other plants.

These seedheads are full of new generations of poppies. Cut them off and empty the contents into a dry container, and sprinkle round the garden next spring 😀

Is that for all poppies? @richard.spicer.7906

Hi @play , definitely for those descended from the wild variety (Papaver rhoeas), and also the same for other annual varieties such as Papaver somniferum (opium poppy). I understand the Iceland poppy (Papaver nudicaule) can sometimes be grown as perennial, but usually as biennial and may be more difficult to self seed. The true perennial poppy (Papaver orientale) is better to grow by division of existing plants or root cuttings.

@play Another good annual and self seeder not directly linked to Papaver is the Californian Poppy (Eschscholzia californica). Hope that helps 😀

I'm not sure about this one. It looks like it could be a type of poppy, but may have to wait to see it flower.
