One of the leaf cuttings I took last year from a variegated African Violet has done superb, and the variegation is now coming through. Although there seems to be two shades, half the plant (as seen here at the front) is coming through a rosy pink cream variegation, whereas the leaves at the back (you can just see two small ones in shot here directly under top flower, slightly off centre to right) are coming through white/cream. If it stays, I might try separating them and taking more cuttings 😊
Beautiful Richard. Brings back memories as my father had lots of African violets. He propagated leaves using milk bottle tops with a hole in an popping the leaf through that into a small jar of water! Was amazingly successful
Leaf cuttings from college, of African Violet - two leaves back to back. No signs of new growth just yet. This one has variegated foliage (you can just see the cream edging on this leaf) #africanviolet #saintpaulia #saintpauliajoliemadame #leafcutting #houseplant
Thanks Judy 😊 @ripjuju they taught me at college that these are one of the easiest plants to propagate from leaf cuttings. Will post another picture when the shoots come up.
Hi Angie @ada31514 - I don't think there is any major benefit in planting these saintpaulia cuttings back to back other than commercially this was sometimes done to save space/money as you get two leaves to a pot rather than one. I didn't write anything else in my notes. We did seem to cram quite a lot into our tray 😮
Sure @monika09 😊 - if I can get them to root and grow then definitely happy for you to have a bit. I must admit i don't know much about them so will be interesting to see how I get on with them. I'll keep you posted on how they do. I did learn however if you do leaf cuttings with a variegated cultivar, the cutting leaves should actually be the greenest you can find as this will increase the success rate of them taking. As they grow they will become more variegated 👍🏼
