05/05/19 - Smaller than many of the hybrids, but another great reliable species tulip which seems to multiply very well 👌🏼 inside is just as nice with yellow and black centres - all my species tulips were moved to the ground last autumn after being in pots for a couple of years
I’d never noticed the outside before, and only the inside ( which I’ve not caught on camera this year as sun never around when I want it 😂) so was nice to catch this detail @lexijane
Luckily I’ve captured inside & outside shots this year. The detail is phenomenal isn’t it? The colour on this one is stunning. Did you see Carol Klein with all those tulips on GW? 🌷🌷🌷
I did! I think I’ve seen that place she was at before, and coincidently it was on a program that Tom Hart Dyke was presenting, as I remember the lady he interviewed said she would throw all her spent tulips for the year out into the tulip meadow. Quite phenomenal site @lexijane - it was a old episode of Great British Garden Revival, on tulips
Morning, just adding more missing entries to my plant list. Tulip 'Little Princess' - a dwarf species tulip, which has copper-orange flowers with a deep yellow and dark centre markings. Eventually will plant these in a well drained sunny position in spring. Apparently a good naturaliser and does well in rockeries. Planted 28th November '16' #tulip #bulbs #bulb-addict
I'm giving these a go this year as well along with some other dwarf varieties! 'Little Beauty' is my favourite so am looking forward to seeing how these compare!
Hello King of the Potted Bulb! I need some advice about my tulips - I've potted them up with a good layer of coarse chippings in the bottom, and topped them off with pea gravel. Should I be leaving them outside overwinter or is it better to pop them under the bench in my potting shed for protection until the Spring? 🌷🌷🌷 @richard.spicer.7906
Hey @tash74 😀👋🏼 hope all is good. If they are normal tulips I think you'll be safe to leave them outside. However, if you have pesky squirrels around you might want to put some protection over the pot to stop them digging up the bulbs! I often use an old wire basket cage and simply turn it upside down and rest it on the soil.
If you want to keep them under cover, I think that would also be ok but you might need to remember to water them occasionally. But I think outside will be fine really if you can avoid the squirrels 🐿 @tash74

They are pretty 🤗
They’re lovely and I’ll have to get some for next year to underplant my Acer ‘Little Princess’!
Lovely colours 😍👌🏼
That would be a perfect combo! @rachelbrooks
