Help! Pill bugs are devouring my cucumbers! 😭 Everything I read says they only eat dead and decaying material. But I have found them eating the stems of large and healthy plants. There's just so many of them I don't know how to get rid of them. #advice #help
If you dig a small hole and put a plastic cup in it.. Put some water in it or corn meal.. It's supposed to draw them in.. And then either drown them (water) or kill them (corn meal).. I've been meaning to do the same.. Maybe today, if I get a chance
Thanks @bluebutterfly . Just read something similar but this mentioned using beer instead of water. As they are crustaceans this might actually be more effective. Will have to make sure it's a cheap beer though. ;)
True with the cheap beer (cheaper works actually better from what ppl say) lol.. But we don't drink so there is no beer in my house.. Maybe I can get some from a neighbour.. 😂😂

You just made my mouth water!😋 Lol it's still a while till I see these in my garden.. But getting there☺
@bluebutterfly I have mine in the greenhouse so they're pretty much growing like weeds. It'd be too cold for the outside garden now too. 😊
You're in bc right? Shouldn't you guys be having warmer temperatures than us?
@bluebutterfly Yeah, south coast and yeah we should. It hasn't been bad for the last week. It had been getting up to 20° and I was tempted to plant my squash and corn out. But today it is only 10° so I'm glad I didn't. ⛄
We're here in Ontario.. I've had my vegetables out in the garden since last month.. It was cooler then.. But now the temps are around +20.. Monday was a record hitting day at +32!😫.. I'll be post pics of my vegetable garden in a bit, welcome to take a look ☺
@bluebutterfly Our temperature on the coast usually stays quite temperate, moderated by being so close to the ocean. So we don't get the huge temperature spikes like you guys and the prairies. We get down occasionally to -10° but winter usually hovers around 5° while summer can stay at 25° or less depending on where on the coast you are. Our microclimate will jump up to 30° occasionally but that's only in mid-summer when it's dead calm.
Cont. The exceptions are city centres like Vancouver which can get wicked hot because of all the heat absorbed by concrete. We usually joke though that we have only two seasons- wet and dry. 😊

@gjones These are in the greenhouse. I got seedlings from the local nursery about a month ago and these plants are now at least 1m tall. Our last frost date is usually early April so we can start pretty early.
And I'm just seeing flowers and tiny baby cukes now.. Lucky u
