I have a question please. I have found with my new 30meter hose that watering with the jet gets water deeper than the sprayer and has less surface area to evaporate. Is there a disadvantage to this method please? Should I change my irrigation sprayers to droppers❓❔❓#watering #question

Yes, the jet gets the water deeper but also disturbs the roots. For that reason I prefer to use a spray or else put the hose in my watering can and water that way. Your thoughts? - @Shephes @leisel @deekay @KathyB @Muzz67

Re: drippers vs sprays: I prefer drippers because less evaporation. But either way you should check water penetration (with a finger).

Depends on the garden. I agree with @brightcolours. I have used jets but find it disturbs the roots. I use a soaker hose for a large area as the drippers always seem to be in the wrong spot over time. I use drippers into pots or around specimen trees. Spraying is disastrous for some plants like roses as any humidity can breed disease. Whereas rainforest type plants love it. So depends on the plants. But again I wish I was an expert. 🤔 #irrigation #soakerhose #drippervsspray

I really appreciate your comments and shared ideas @brightcolours and @Shephes. It seams horses for courses. I understand how the roots would be disturbed though. Thank you. 💐❌⭕️

My ornamental garden beds dont have any watering systems. Because melbourne is not hot often. I have rich clay soil that is heavily mulched so dont need to water often. My vegies are all mulched too. I just used a soaker hose under the mulch. I have never had an automated watering system so cant advise. I have a hose end probe that is great for delivering to specific established tree/shrubs.

I agree that the drippers are better for minimising water loss.

Thanks @deekay. Your system sounds ideal. I have never heard of a hose end probe. It sounds like it would alleviate the root disturbance problem and still get water deep down and lessen the surface area to reduce evaporation. You are all giving great ideas and instruction. I humbly thank you all @deekay @brightcolours @Shephes 🙏😇💙

I too would have to agree with a slower drip than a jet. As also stated the jet can damage the root system. All great advice from above comments @roswel @deekay @brightcolours @Shephes
