Turned out too long but better than last year. As if it grows in storeys, when one storey of flowers matures, from that point another whole storey grows. I need to either train lower branch more horizontally or prevent upper storey from forming. Maybe I can lean it now?

Not the best picture, but right branch cut into half of size gave only 2 thin and short shoots, and left branch cut into waist size gave 4 huge thick long shoots and long bare trunk. Not sure at what height to cut next time. #advice please

It shoots up from right below the cut, leaving the bare trunk, so next time I need to prune it much shorter. Maybe only 1 feet? I cut other branch on the right shorter (as visible in history) to compare the 2 but it remained dwarfed. So much to read and learn during the winter!

Start of 2nd flowering. This is shoot from the ground. On the main branches I can see so far only one spot with 3 buds

Started #blooming today. 3 branches on taller main branch, and 2 branches on shorter one, but only one rose, another got eaten in the bud.

Much better looking compared to last year

Hard to see on this photo... in front of ivy

The shoot at the back goes straight up and I wanted it more horizontal. It is now pretty firm so I'm not training it yet until later when it becomes elastic. Last year I let them grow straight up and the flowers ended 5m high 😆 It is great to have pictures catalogued and be able to see plant history by just a few sweeps. I really recommend everyone to use this feature, so much better than tagging.

Maybe it was too much fertilizer? The leaves are unusually big. What a growth in just a week! There was lots of rain that worked with fertilizer we added long ago. There are 6 shoots and several shoot buds on the longer branch, 5 shoots on the shorter one.

This is at waist length. There are other very small shoots below, will see what happens next.

This year I cut it much shorter to avoid long bare trunk that happened last year. Is it short enough?

Hopefully it should have dormant buds break further down the stem 🤞🏼

Far away from earthly worries... I will tie it to the arch but that will cause it only to create more shoots, I'm afraid. Maybe I need to lean the whole trunk, this tall arch is not suitable for this kind of rose.

Next time I need to prune it earlier and shorter

I could tie it to the arch now that it grew too tall

I cut it too late and now, besides the shoots on the top, there is only a single shoot on the trunk🤔😩

Is it too late to prune this rose? It grew too high already, more than 2,6 m

No, I don’t think it’s too late! If you decide to cut it back make sure you give it a good feed afterwards and keep it well watered until you see strong new growth. Good luck 👍

It has 2 trunks, I left this one and cut another one and wait and see what happens next.
