#plantid #juniper #bonsai #mushroom I know this is a Juniper bonsai, but there is this lovely mushroom ring forming around it and I'm curious as to what kind of mushrooms these are. I'm in northern California right now if that helps and I can answer questions about any characteristics. Thanks!

I have no idea about the mushroom and I am newish to bonsai. But I have always been told that junipers like to be on the drier side and that mushrooms like wet conditions. Have you heard anything to this end?

@jessicaspaid I'm sort of new to bonsai as well. I'm in a hardiness 9 zone, so I think it needs more water than in other zones. The nursery told me to water it once a day and it seems like it needs it. The mushrooms lasted 3 days and are just now starting to fade.

I am in zone 8b and I have to water my stuff just about every day too. I was just concerned about the mushroom. But please take the nursery's advice over mine.

@jessicaspaid I read that some mushrooms can be good for the trees and others not so much. That's why I was hoping to figure out what kind of mushroom this was. The plant seems healthy, so that's the important part. Thank you! I'll keep an eye out for overwatering.

That'd be cool. I know a lot of bonsai professionals always talk about mycorhizzae in conifers but I thought that was under the soil. I wish there were more bonsai people on this app.
