What's left of my honey dew hoya. I finally got a good care schedule going, and the last 2 strands remaining are quite happy. 😂 #hoya #hoya-ds70 #hoya-honeydew #houseplant #trailing

Are these white spots from mealybug or are they mineral deposits? Or something else? I searched the whole plant and haven't seen any bugs yet, but I want to be sure before I get it near my other plants. #plant-advice #advice #hoya-advice
I’d say mealy bug/larva/eggs are in those. They’re not much to worry about (some people will say otherwise) because they’re easy to kill out. Simply misting a plant daily with tap water (as long as you do the entire plant) kills them out in a few weeks as they can’t take the moisture. Or with little infestations just smoosh those spots and rub them off during a daily inspection will also kill them out in a week, two tops. They like to get on my Dumb Cane in the fall and my Hostas occasionally.
However, for simplicity, do keep it in a room of it’s own till they’re out. That way you can rest easy only watching one plant, and not worry even more if it turns out to be something else, which I really don’t think is the case. P.S. don’t forget to check the stems and base of the plant! ^_^ And mist throughly if you go that route.
@cyndi I can scratch it off, but a faint mark remains. It's not wet or sticky, more like dry and crusty. Is that consistent with hard water?
@heelerpup Thank you for all your help. If it ends up being mealybug I will definitely try the misting. 😊
No problem haha 🐶 Dry/crusty with a faint mark left sounds more like hard water, but the placement seems off to me. I would think it would be a few spots on almost every leaf. There’s a thing called “scale bugs” that are sometimes white, and don’t move around after anchoring to the plant. Ive never seen them so idk if they would be dry/crusty. I wish you luck! 🍀
My first thought was bird crap lmaooo
A hoya cutting blooming after chronic neglect, 2 years in water, and several months of low light. I've had 3 separate Hoya blooms recently, after 2.5 years of ignoring them due to a depressive episode that eventually killed approximately 65% of my plant collection. (Total guess, I'm bad at math.) #hoya #hoya-honeydew #bloom #cutting #I-might-be-back-now-hopefully
