This makes me so sad! I beheaded my plant once I saw the stem rot, after only a few days as I waited for it to callus this is now what it looks like ☹️ @Soph1e @MaltipooMom 😢 did I just get to it too late to save it!?

I have lost a few this way too 😥 it is sad, over watered I think. You do have to cut well above any of the dark spot because it will continue to travel upwards i learned that the hard way

So sorry @Sheila30, I think you're right, it was a case of getting to it too late but in all fairness, you had no way of knowing how deep the rot went. Definitely try and save the babies that were on the side.

Such a bummer! I’ll try to save these babies though! Aside from leaves falling off & seeing the rot .. are there any other early signs of rot ? @Soph1e

Not really. The leaves dropping is the first warning sign. Once you spot that, check the stem for soft areas or areas of discolouration.

What’s happening here? The leaves are just falling off mainly on the one side 🙁 Root rot? She’s been getting plenty of sun ☀️ & is in well draining soil!

I'd say stem rot. It looks like the dark area may be rotten. Behead the plant above the damaged area and it'll soon grow new roots.

@Soph1e dang! So pull the whole plant out & after beheading the plant repot just the top of the plant? 😬

@Sheila30 let it form a callus before you replant it. It should take somewhere between a couple of days and a week. You can save the leaves from the rest of the plant for propagation and the young plants at the side can be potted up once they've formed a callus.

Same thing happened to part of my California sunset so thats what I did. @Soph1e what would be a cause of stem rot? I had about 5 separate stemmed plants and this happened to 2 of them in same pot

@MaltipooMom it’s such a bummer! The rot went up pretty high so there isn’t much left after beheading it 🙁.. I hope it’ll grow & root once I can repot it!

It is a bummer 😥 I've caught on to recognizing the dark spot and pull it right out. It will grow back just takes time. These succulents are teaching us patience lol @Sheila30

@MaltipooMom yeah I should have known something was up bc it kept losing leaves very easily !! Definitely teaching us patience 😆😬

@MaltipooMom I had one echeveria that developed rot from pest damage but generally I've found stem rot is caused by overwatering and sometimes lack of space for air to circulate.
