My grandmother taught me how to garden. She loved daylillies and hostas. She is gone now, but gardening helps me remember her. Zone 5b

What in the heck did I do my beautiful Tippy? I left on vacation for 4 days and came home to this? Does it look over or underwatered (I have a hard time telling the difference with succulents) Thanks! #succulent

To tell if it's over or under watered stick a wooden skewer into the soil. If it comes out clean, it's dry and can be watered. I'd repot it with some free draining compost. You can use cactus compost or mix your own. Break off the sickly looking leaves and given time it'll start to produce new plants where the old leaves were.

@Soph1e thanks. I will try that. The root system isn't wet. So strange. It was doing just peachy 4 days ago.

It's officially dead. I killed it. I think I know what happened. I watered it before we left and then I left it outside for a bit. It is very hot here and I think I boiled it. I hope some of the leaves I saved are viable. The stem is black and is rotten. ☹️Oops

Next time you leave, keep it in its original location. They do not like huge changes. 😭 The death of a Succulent is a sad thing.

Oh nooo ! Sounds like rot yes .Really upsetting .Its so hard to not water if its going to be hot but they do tend to steam as the wet soil heats up so better to be mean and not water in the heat .Sorry about your plant .Even the succulent experts have this issue in Australia with our summer so don't be hard on yourself 😆
