Aww, now that's a flower! Absolutely beautiful 💛

Certainly is lobivia arachnacantha orange. Very nice.

16.4.19 One of my unknown cacti starting to flower. @cactusnut @Muzz67 I'm not looking for an exact species just yet, but does that fuzzy flower tell you anything about the genus? #plantid #plantid-cactus

The thorns lean towards Gymnocalycium.

@lovestogarden Yeah I though so too, as well as the pups which you can't see, but the flower bulb doesn't look like to me. Too fuzzy.

I wondered. 🤔

Yeah, looks like a echinopsis (lobivia) arachnacantha.

@cactusnut Never would have even considered that, thank you so much. I hope you know that when this flower opens you will be tagged 😉

Happy to help.

#gymnocalycium

I'm thinking Gymnocalycium mesopotamicum

@littlemorningglory It certainly looks similar, thank you 🙏🏼

Again. Flowers are whats really needed for a proper ID. Thats true for a lot of cacti.

@cactusnut can you take a look at my Lophophora? I understand flowers would help, but it's going to be a long time before it blooms and I at least want your opinion. Really I'd like to know if you think it's williamsii or not.

Im pretty sure its not that. With the spines it looks more like a (lobivia) what is now echinopsis arachnacantha. One of the darker coloured flowers. You will be able to rule out being a gymnocalycium when it flowers as they produce spotted egg like flower bulbs.
22.7.19 My first Lobivia put out its second bloom of the year.
