It's an astrophytum of some sort

Possibly euphorbia enopla...? Or another euphorbia. A side view may make Id easier.

@petalsnthorns I thought so too because they do look similar but there is a distinct pattern on this one unlike the #enopla

I think it's Euphorbia meloformis (Melon Spurge). If so, those spots will grow tree-like branches and look even crazier. 😄
