#plantid - I found this happily growing in the shade in an overgrown garden. Can anyone help me please identify it? Thank you.

@deekay @nej @KathyB

Thank you @brightcolours This could be a good looking weed but if it is, it is well self contained!

@brightcolours @deekay @nej @KathyB I asked at a good plant nursery about this and they could not identify the plant. Suggested I go the botanical gardens and ask the experts there!

Is the stem square?

@brightcolours no. Are there plants with square stems?

Yes! Lots of them. Look up plectranthus...

@richard.spicer.7906 can you help??

At first glance it looks like Ribes sanguineum (Flowering Current) - could that be it? @brightcolours @studioa

Thank you @richard.spicer.7906 Yes! @brightcolours it is a deciduous shrub and the described smell matches it - I took home some cuttings and my partner thought the cat had peed in the room (as if Henry would do that)! I am now researching if I can grow it from a cutting and if yes how far away I can plant it!!

You can definitely grow it from a cutting. I started mine from a cutting last spring and already it looks like a decent shrub. Last year it didn't do much but this year it took off and is now about 1m tall and has 4 main branches.
#plantid Same unknown plant, this time showing the trunk of the plant. I wonder if the original shrub was grafted onto something and that is what is growing? I do know some vicious gardeners came in a couple of years ago and chopped down rose bushes, a tibouchina and more.
Are you sure those leaves and flowers belong to the woody stems?
Yes @brightcolours I checked that specifically, following the stems. I just couldn't get a good photo to show that.
@nej @KathyB
So definitely a shrub and not a groundcover!
