I forgot to take the tape off of this graft last year. Hoping it didn't die. 13 Apr 2024 #che #grafted #graftyourown #cudrania-tricuspidata

Progress to date on my #grafted #che plant. It put out its first leaves in the shade, so now I'm afraid to move it into more sunlight. 15 June 2023 #cudrania-tricuspidata #grafted #graftyourown

Another #bud peeking through the #graftingtape on my #che plant. I seriously overdid it on the grafting tape but it looks like the plant found a way anyway. 15 June 2023 #cudrania-tricuspidata #grafted #graftyourown

Saying goodbye to these two little round flower buds. Gonna pick them off so the plant will grow roots and stems this year. 8 June 2023 #che #cudrania-tricuspidata #grafted #graftyourown #che-flowerbud #seeyounextyear

@clfdonato I don't think you need to wrap a branch after pruning. Pruning already stimulates growth. I wrapped this because it's the scion that I grafted to a rootstock and I'm trying to keep the scion from drying out before the graft union heals. What zone are you in? And what tree are you waiting on?

Couldn't wait to see if there was any change since yesterday. Moved this guy into more sunshine to give him a little boost. 17 May 2023 #che #grafted #cudrania-tricuspidata #graftyourown

I used to do budding and grafting as a job. It's always great when you see them take and start to grow away!😊 @sushiwaitress

@bobbyball it's still like magic to me. How could it possibly work? And yet humans have been doing it for hundreds and hundreds of years. Last year was my first grafting experience and I was astonished that 9 or 10 out of 13 attempts worked!

I had just about given up on my #che #graft -- not a single sign of leaf since late March when I #grafted it. I did wrap it in way too much grafting tape, so that and the cold last few weeks might have slowed it down. We've finally had a few warm days and now finally a sign of life. 15 May 2023 #cudrania-tricuspidata

This is actually an #osageorange #seedling which is going to be the #rootstock for my #che scion once the rootstock starts to leaf out. The common name for the fruit is che or sometimes Chinese mulberry. Never tasted one but I've heard good things so this is going to be an adventure. 26 Feb 2023 #wickedspines #spikyboiz #cudrania-tricuspidata

Osage Orange? I thought they were 100% inedible for humans?

2w

sushiwaitress

@emch I think you're right about Osage orange being inedible. From what I'm told it's a close enough relative to the che fruit that it'll accept a che graft. We'll see if it works.
