This forest of strawberries is no joke. I planted some ranunculus this spring to add some color to the sea of strawberries, but the strawberries won and the ranunculus quietly lay down and politely became compost. Last year the same thing happened with marigolds.

We got a LOT of rain this spring. I bet that has something to do with all the berries this year.

Update 2023: this did not work AT ALL, but once the strawberries filled the need the leaves provided enough camouflage that the critters aren't finding them.

@richard.spicer.7906 I was so surprised how small the pile cooked down to. But it had actually turned into crumbly black soil, I was amazed.

I thought for sure I'd somehow washed away all the #woodlandstrawberry seeds during fall rainstorms, but lo and behold these guys have sprouted. Too early to tell if they're really strawberries, but this looks much more promising than before. I'll allot them some winter grow-tent real estate. 27 Oct 2020
