I have a theory. As the summer has progressed, so have these mystery spots. It seems that some moisture has been sucked out of this plant in various places. What could be causing this? I see no bugs at all. However. I did see a very tiny jumping spider a few days ago. And there are webs in the corner of the tray. My theory is that because there are no other bugs to prey on, the spider is drinking from my lithops. Anecdotal evidence only. Observations will continue. 18 Aug 2019 #lithops #livingst

Decided to repot my group of six #mesagarden #lithops into individual 3" pots because some of them aren't doing so well, and their individual needs have to be cared for without harming their neighbors. What media do you use?? I want one sooo badly but am not sure what media to put one in if I got one. @sushiwaitress

For these plants which are pretty well-established adults (about an inch wide), I have them in a pot of pumice gravel that I ordered online. I haven't yet watered them because they're supposed to be reabsorbing the moisture in the outer leaves to fill up the new set of inner leaves, but my pot has some condensation in it that probably came with the pumice. Plastic pots don't breathe, so that moisture is something I'm keeping an eye on. @ashleyglassman grows a lot of lithops and she uses shallow

unglazed terracotta pots which will allow moisture to evaporate out through the walls. I'd like to get some of those eventually, but I don't want to disturb them just now. Ashley has a YouTube channel with tons of info on how to grow lithops, how to make soil mixes, dealing with plant problems... Lots of topics.

For growing lithops from seeds I use a mix of sterilized pumice, vermiculite, and coconut coir because it holds more water than straight pumice and seedlings need way more water than adult plants.

The dirt on my #lithops has been annoying me since they arrived, but it was unexpectedly useful to watch the outer leaves recede way from it. Crazy, right? I always heard that lithops were slow growers, but apparently sometimes they do a lot of changing all at once. It helps that these are more-established plants than some of my others are, so I guess they react to the sun faster (maybe).
