@tinaaune i think about 3 inches. They're a super-cheap Ferry Morse set of 18 pots and tray. Very flimsy, unfortunately. The sides of the pots bend when I pick them up. Cost about $5 at Home Depot.

Yes. It does look like that. Just add some tomato sauce. I have some lithops. Are they supposed to grow tall?

@laketitlow they aren't supposed to grow tall. That usually means they're not getting enough light. That said, I do have some that are pretty tall. Some species get taller than others. As long as they get enough light, they'll sort themselves out in a couple leaf-changes.

Do you put yours ouside?

I don't. I keep mine indoors under high output grow lights. @laketitlow

Where have you gotten your lithops seeds from? I'm just curious... I want to be able to get some seeds that aren't fake ones. Tried a couple of time on Amazon.... the first ones were fake... I just know it. They looked nothing like the pics I saw of that same kind. The second... they could be real.... looks alot like them... I just need to plant them and see what grows. What's the perfect media have you found works the best?

Where did you order your seeds?

@mauspad These in particular came from American Hedgehog Nursery, but I've ordered seeds from Mesa Garden and through various other growers.

I think I must be low risk, low reward haha. I’ve only ordered seeds from AliExpress, though I try to find sellers who seem at least somewhat reputable. Poor germination rates but fairly accurate IDs so far! Maybe I’ll take the plunge and order from Mesa this year

Forgive my ignorance... But what are these?

@Dew1024 Delia you are not ignorant! These guys are super obscure. I was over 30 when I first laid eyes on them. They're called Lithops, and they're a succulent with two leaves and no stem and when fully grown they look like little brains. I'm obsessed. These are seedlings that I started from seed. They're about 6-10mm big now and they're about 5 months old.

I'll have to look into them! They are so unique and they definately draw one in. Thank you for letting me know about them!

Question... when did you put down the seeds? How long did they take to hatch and also, are you heating them or using grow lights?

@Yollymac planted on 14 April, no heat, no grow light, just in ziploc bags on the windowsill, with windowpanes covered with paper towel TO PREVENT THIS EXACT THING FROM HAPPENING. However, because I have no grow light in this room I made a reflector out of a cereal box and aluminum foil, which I used to bounce some light onto the back side of the pot. So my theory is that the reflected light might have been too harsh.

@Yollymac they hatched in about 7-10 days.

@Yollymac if you dig through my garden photos you can see photos of my windowsill setups. Very rudimentary & diy, and it took me a couple tries to get them to survive without being sogged or boiled, but I figured something out eventually. I LOVE the mixed lithops seeds to start with. Buy a bunch, and don't put them all in one pot so you have some left when you make mistakes.

@kimguy - I think so too. I do wonder if going into winter though it may be the wrong time of year for me to grow them.

I started my seeds in September, which was the end of summer/ beginning of autumn for me. I used a cheap LED grow light from Amazon to help with the reduced winter sunlight. I left the grow light on for about 14h/day. Worked fine for me. @Yollymac (another reason to start out with an inexpensive mix of species: you can afford to experiment.)

My preciousssss.... These are my treasured #lithops "embers" (aka rubroroseus) seedlings. Paid over $10 USD for 12 carefully-counted dustlike #seeds and I'm so delighted to see sprouts. Hope I can keep them going. They're super gorgeous once they get their red color. Should happen in about six months from now, if I'm lucky.
