These are 4 shots of a single #lithops-salicola-bacchus #seedling, over the past 3-4 months. In the first photo, it's popping out its first pair of new leaves, but the seedling is very etiolated due to its early days on a dim windowsill. In 2 and 3 the old leaves shrank to a papery tissue and I wondered if it would ever recover from being so etiolated in its first few months of life. Would the old leaf tissue strangle it?

A couple months later and it has fattened up, darkened to deep purple, and somehow wedged itself further down into the soil? Or did it just widen its girth so much that its proportions look more normal? Either way, it survived, and it's the biggest bacchus I have so far, so I'm pretty pleased with his progress.

This normal-colored #lithopssalicola (foreground) is one of the #seedlings in my #lithops-salicola-bacchus pot. The slightly darker shadow at the base of the plant is likely the new baby leaves developing, which gives me hope because these seedlings are so far two months late in splitting. 26 Dec 2018

These are three of my six surviving #lithops-salicola-bacchus #seedlings -- and as you can see, pretty etiolated. There's only one that has started to change leaves, and they're all behind schedule since they were sown in mid-April. I think they were stunted by lack of light. Hope they'll recover. I've been withholding water from the one on the left in hopes he'll take moisture from his outer leaves.

This #lithops-salicola-bacchus #seedling decided to pop off the entire top of the first set of leaves instead of splitting up through the top like they usually do. Sometimes happens when the #seedlings are etiolated.
