The difference between potting my #blackcurrant-consort on 21 May (left) and potting my #redcurrant-redlake on 19 June (right). My theory is that the additional room for the roots and the nutrients from the soil gave this guy a boost while the weather was still cool. Or maybe the red currant just plain grows more slowly. 28 July 2022 #observation #hugelbucket

Did you get any black currants?

Not this year. They both flowered but I pulled them off because they need to grow roots first. They were dormant sticks when I got them, so giving them time to grow a little before fruiting. Next year though. @thenaturalgardeningnomad

My black currants had a tomato aftertaste, im not sure if they are actually black currant
