I have a small urban walled garden of exotics, cottage, topiary, and a coastal garden I can't wait to fill with exotics, cottage, topiary...

Well it's certainly vigorous

Such a pretty flower😊 @susieg but they are very vigorous. I've had to get rid of them in my garden as they just take over everything, even when I try and keep on top of them! 😳

@rachelbrooks that's interesting. I've got one on a wall vying with holboellia. They are both thugs but perfectly happy on a north, which is something. They are going bonkers though so I might have to reconsider. Perhaps a lovely rose. Pretty sure you can't have too many roses! 🌹

I had three on my pergola when I moved here - they were like trees. Cut them back really hard several times, down to the base once and they just seemed to get bigger. Also had one in one of my beds which despite my best efforts to keep under control, decide to bully everything else into submission and has actually damaged my Ceanothus 😳 have tried to get rid of it with no luck and have now resorted to using a systemic on it 🙄 they are beautiful ... 1/2

...2/2 but I would only ever have one now on a wall/fence away from everything else! Don't like to be negative, but they did cause me grief! And, no, you definitely can't have too many roses 👍🏼👍🏼💗😊

Very interesting indeed. Thanks for that. Think we might get rid in the autumn. So what did you plant in their place? 🌹🌸 I know there are some lovely roses that tolerate a north wall. And I love Trachelospermum too

Over the pergola I have two climbing roses and a clematis. In the bed I have put a climbing fuschia. Mind you, one of the roses - climbing iceberg, goes a bit beserk as well, but definitely easier to control! @susieg

Tee hee. @rachelbrooks You've given me an excuse to go rose shopping. Not that I needed much of a prod on that front!

Oh dear...what a shame...that sounds awful 😁😁 @susieg have a look at The generous gardener climbing rose - think it's fine for north facing and not as vigorous as some of the others! And don't forget to share what you've bought! I shall be expecting pics! 😂😂
