possibly a scale insect. try neem oil. will take multiple treatments. if around 80f weekly

@moore.794 thanks terry. Yes definitely a scale. Too much shade and stacks of rain has apparently caused this. I’ll transplant when the soil warms up. Spray for winter. It’s so cold here. 8c last night

@jeatacake they’re so hardy. They really love rain and humidity but also survive with a dullness in drought

@gjones my friend was here from Toronto in 2014. She said the same too. Behind my house we walk over "house plants". She was mortified.
