Saskatoon berry bush

Love IT!

New plant info for me-are they edible? One of my daughter's is starting university in Saskatoon in the fall-I'll have to tell her to take Saskatchewan plant photos for me!

@riakat yes they are delicious, used in pies, jelly, chocolate, wine, deserts, and just off the bush too.

Yum! I'll be in Saskatoon end of August, will I miss them?

#edible

In the wild they usually peak ripening in late summer (July I think) depends on the weather. The ones in my garden are young, they haven't had berries yet, hopefully this year. The Berry Barn near Saskatoon has u-pick berries (they'd be able to tell u if they are still in season then) and a restaurant and store with a bunch of Saskatoon berry goodies.

Ahh my sister just told me July or August, so there may be some still around when you are there!

@sweettemperedsinner are those the same as serviceberries?
@SikoMa I'm not sure...

@SikoMa I just looked it up on Wikipedia and it seems that yes they are
They are also called Serviceberries, Juneberries
And a couple other names.
I have a few of the same plants. They call them Serviceberries here. Guess it depends on where you live.
Saskatoons is I have always known them. Thanks for pic now that I'm in the city I don't know when fruit ripens anymore! π±π±π
@bluecondo not quite ripe on the bush in the garden, the wild ones out in the fields are starting to be perfect right now though
Thanks, yummy.
