With little knowledge, I'm slowly turning an acre field into a garden! This is my first gardening attempt, so there's such a lot to learn! 🐝🦋🌻

Lovely, Sylvia did you see Bryn y Llidiart in Powys on Gardeners World earlier?

No unfortunately but it's recorded! What were they showing? @clustyroen

A couple's garden which is very exposed to the elements, and difficult to manage, very large garden, lovely but not as interesting or as pretty as yours. 😀

Considering using this as a hedge? Any thoughts?

yes is great for hedging, i prefer the pale pink variety, only trouble is timing the hedge trimming so as not to lose flowers :)

@Squares I have the pink as well however it doesn't seem to grow as vigorously as this one! Is that the norm?

yes i think so, i have the red as a hedge and is much faster growing than one in my clients garden

Several cuttings taken last year are all doing well despite the heat and dryness!

Beautiful! I miss my escallonia! Had to dig it out earlier this year after the leaves developed black spots, turned yellow and fell off! I'll enjoy yours instead! 😄

So easy to take a cutting! Do you not have a neighbour that has one and would be willing to let you take a cutting

I know I would be if you lived close by! @bigemrg (also see comment above)

Aww! Thanks! I think one of my dad's neighbours has one! Will have to try sweet talking them! Do you know which time of year is best for cuttings?

I've tried some this spring and they took really quickly! When I'm cutting things back in the autumn I'm in the habit of sticking a few directly in the ground. It has really helped stock my garden to the point that it is now a bit claustrophobic in places! I always do heel cuttings though as it has been successful with most things! 😃

Ps see above @bigemrg , also remember most people prune these regularly so you are only recycling!
