Last year this rose didn't really open, the flower cups were closed and was a bit disappointing. It's better this year. I did feed it with a slow release rose feed but should I be doing something else?

Roses are greedy, keep feeding ( no need to worry about watering with present weather) and snip off dead blooms. Roses are tough as nails, really.
