My first ever dahlia ‘Mel’s Orange marmalade’ 🍊 - Not much of a looker at the moment but I’m expecting a star performance this summer 🤞🏻😳 Any advice welcomed ... #dahlia #melsorangemarmalade #advice #preparation #sarahraven #tuber

Have a look at Sarah’s video for how to plant them up https://www.sarahraven.com/articles/how_to_plant_dahlia_tubers.htm And when they’re in full growth they’re quite thirsty plants and like a good monthly feed. Once they’ve finished in the autumn you can dig the tubers up (I leave some in the ground as well though), clean them off and store them in a dry, frost free place, ready for next year 👍🏼

It's still a bit early to start dahlias unless you live in a warm part of the country or want to force them to take cuttings. They need to stay under protection until last frost date so about mid to late May. Perhaps wait until late March to start the tubers. No rush, I know we're all eager to get out there but best be patient with tender plants. 😊
