Ipomoea batatas 'Blackie'

The limecolor was from a cutting so I was adding the dark burgundy cuttings and as I was making a spot I felt something I thought it was a rock but no!! So @jeatacke @ukjohonny will this large tuber b a potato?? This will b the third summer!!?? Should I just leave it?😳😳🤞🏻🤞🏻😊💕

Yes it's a sweet potato, but not to eat. As long as you don't break off the eyes it will make a new blackie @ukjohonny @jeatacake @terrimclaughlin

I can't help, sorry Terri. I've no experience of growing sweet potatoes. Not much with regular spuds either! 😀

@gjones These get so big and pretty there one of a few real pretty flowers that can handle this weather. They have ones with lime colored leaves I have a couple but yet to flower. Have a good weekend 😊💕

@kimguy These are alittle different I hope it keeps flowering. Jeatacake says they make sweet potatoes like you grow potatoes here but when I’ve dug these up they have something more like rhizomes unless these are ornamental ones. Have a good one Ohio👍🏻👍🏻🤗😊💕

@gjones do you think the flower is the potato? You know like there’s litter yellow flower before the tomato little orange flower before the squash?? It’s just potatoes are buried and grow underground it’s amazing you can take a small potato and cut it into quarters bury them a few inches or so deep and by fall (at least here in San Antonio) you’ll have a nice clump if potatoes 😊💕

@gjones your right I took it cause it has blooms this year. I was just saying about the edible sweet potatoes but of course they would come from underground it bloomed anothe flower today and I’m having a plant sale over the weekend and I bet someone will want that one but I might just keep that one the others from cuttings don’t bloom flowers just this one. The other plant is called Moses in the cradle I believe
