@richard.spicer.7906 they are fine as long as not evergreen woodland. They need light in early spring when they flower. They die back to roots by summer so don't mind shade then.

Thanks @tiggrx - I'll do some reading up on these as they could work towards the edges down the bottom of garden. I think there is quite a bit of light there during winter and spring, and then the big cherry tree comes out.
