I got a small cutting of this plant but didn't know how to use it.
I've been puzzled by this plant for ages, as I was given some cuttings when I did my propagation course a couple of years ago and it had no label. I tried to compare it to so many pics as everyone kept telling me it was Cuban oregano but when I check pictures online at official horticulture registers they leaf shape was never right. In the end I think I convinced myself it was instead Plectranthus tomentosa rather than Plectranthus amboinicus π€
That's funny u say that Richard, I had a plant given to me along time ago by an older woman who told me confidently it was vicks plant, but when I tried to match pl.tomentosa to its leaves it was never the same small but not the same shape but scent was dead on, I think alot of these plectranthus are misidentified by people who have them and just called whatever they want to call themπ€ makes your head spin @richard.spicer.7906
This Cuban pl. Coleoides, has a much larger more stiff stemmed upright habit than tormentosa I believe... my vicks had tiny leaves and a trailing habit @richard.spicer.7906
@mardel there's much controversy over whether this cultivar is actually edible but all plectranthus are in the mint family making them all consumable in some way at least, many other plectranthus ARE used in seasonings in many countries, we sell this as an ornamental and treat it as a succulent mixing it in planters and such so not a great answer for u, I guess it's up in the air as of now?! π€
