@maldavis all this time and I guess I missed or didn’t c it that you were a “rose guy”. My father also loved roses!! Can u tell me if there’s rose seeds inside a rose hip??? I broke one open and it looked like seeds but the others I didn’t break open and now there very hard, not sure I can open. The rose in my profile pic, I wanted to try to get another plant ????🤔🤔😊💕

@terrimclaughlin I have never attempted to start a rose from seed. You generally get them from grafts or ones that are grown on their own root stock. Own root stock is preferred for healthy roses. Did he keep any kind of garden records or receipts? I have a 'source' book for every rose ever registered; on where to purchase one. Take several good pics and send them to me alonh with some info. Size of bloom. Does it rebloom. Height. Color. If possible, the number of petals.

@terrimclaughlin forgot to say that you could also take some cuttings and root them.

I hardly ever am successful when trying to propagate any woody plant!!!! This one rose was on a plant that had a few different blooms I guess I’d b taking a chance trying to get that certain bloom?? What is that called true to the plant or so like that . The person that planted the rose bush was gone when I moved here😥 I’ll watch it this year and see what blooms come out. Do u think if I do a graft on the stem of this rose bloom I will get the same colored rose?? Thxs for all that information

@maldavis I heard the best time to prune roses so you remember every year is February 14... (since you are now my go to rose expert 😉) is that true?

@treefrog44 LOL! Sure there are many more people more knowledgable than me, but I have pruned even during blooming. Prune away dead branches and any that are growing inward and crossing over others. On antique roses I almost never prune...just deadwood or suckers at the base.
