Getting ready to throw some seeds

Beauty! Have you ever intentionally propagated the seeds? I've been trying to get one of these for a loooong time, but they're so overpriced! I hear stories of them being a menace in people's greenhouses, self-propagating everywhere, but I guess nobody ever thinks to sell them, bc they're so expensive to buy! If you'd be interested in trading a few seeds then lmk! I've got lots of fresh cactus & euphorbia seeds. 😉

I've been a long time admirer of your collection, I'm sure we can figure out something @beatnikcrab. We're u interested in a plant or just the seeds?

What an interesting plant! Always a new plant I've never seen before.

Either! I got a few tiny babies as bare root freebies several years ago (from someone trying to rid their greenhouse of the unwanted seedlings), but they'd received rough treatment during removal, plus I didn't really know what I was doing then and they died within the year. I've wanted to try again, but haven't found any since then, so I'll take whatever I can get. 😂 Just lmk what of mine you might be interested in!

If you need a refresher on what I've got then my collection is much more thoroughly documented on the Plant Collector app (same username there). You can pm me there if you'd like or you can email me at beatnikcrab@gmail.com

Please do! If you're interested in seeds then I have a good supply of setiechinopsis mirabilis and gymnocalycium mihanovichii x baldianum that both have an amazing germination rate and are very easy to deal with. Also tons of assorted ferocactus seeds.

@beatnikcrab I would love to see even one seedling in one pot from my D. foetida -- what a great problem to have

I never saw this name for a Dorstenia until I came to GrowIt. And they called it a Grendeloin. So one wonders whether it's more like a sirloin or more like a chimera cross between a lion and Grendel LOL

I haven't either. It wasnt in their database I summited it (way back when) and it was approved under dorstenia. Several months later it was renamed. This was one of the first "flowers" that grew up and not down. So much easier to photograph

@emch @txgardener - I have never seen anything like this before!! How cool! I'm going to see if I can't find one in Wisconsin! Definitely the #what-am-i challenge! 👍

@KariSamuel the flowers remind me irresistibly of a candy they don't make anymore, called Bottle Caps. Dorstenias, unfortunately, do not come in rootbeer flavor LOL

Occasionally we can still find Bottle Caps candy here! We have a old-fashioned candy shop about 40 minutes away from us. Penny candy. Measured by the pound! I'll give you the rootbeer ones, if you would give me the orange ones! 🥰
