I suppose you would liken them to bulbs in a way Dave. Daffodils grow from bulbs, cyclamen from corms and dahlias from tubers. It's really easy to save the tubers from year to year :)
Sorry. Not ignoring anyone @brightcolours @flof1952 I have only just seen your reply so please forgive me ladies!! How do I save the tubers if I want my dahlias to come back next year please? @flof1952
When they've finished flowering let all the foliage die off and remove excess soil. I label them then wrap them in newspaper individually and store them in a cardboard box in the eves of the garage .....they must be protected from frost. Middle February I pot them up and leave them in the greenhouse Dave @daveandellie
