#rhododendron-germania This one doesn’t normally flower until the risk of frost has gone so fingers crossed 🤞

When you’ve lost so many plants over winter, this is a bit of cheerfulness #rhododendron-germania Just finished checking all 17 pots of cannas…. All rotten 😢

Beautiful display 🌸 sorry about your cannas, it seemed a very long winter and I think we have all suffered losses in the garden 🪴

@debs69 If only it was just the cannas. I’m not sure there’s enough word space on here to list what I’ve lost 🙄

What a weird year it was! My friend and I can't total what we lost this past winter... really all for unexplainable reasons

I’m still too scared to check my cannas! None of them are showing any signs of growth so I fear they’ve had it 😢

We’ve got explainable reasons for ours @lesliecole49 very warm late autumn/early winter to sudden freezing for 2 weeks, not getting above 0 for around 12-14 days with lows here of -12

@jacaranda I was like that and just had to bite the bullet so I could plan what to do this year. I’d sown lots of seed but only had a 25% success rate this year so have around 12 to play with (I’m blaming absolute rubbish compost) I’ve been to see tropical John and swapped some of my ostrich fans for some of his cannas so hoping to have some flowering this year 🙏

This is the later of my #rhododendons to flower and tells me it’s time to start planting out the tender stuff. Do you have certain plants you use as a guide or is it just me ? #clematis-montana-alba deserves a mention in the background now covering about 40ft of the back fence

My garden is so out of kilter this year I don't think it would work here. That clematis looks amazing 🌸🌸🌸

@pelly and @wagsmomthompsonbtinternetcom I’m in a frost pocket here (can be 3 degrees lower here in winter than at the top of my road) so my plants are always a bit later to the party but when they get going, they really get going 😀

@vec That's amazing then if she's an old gal 😃she's spectacular!! I've got a thing about Peonies; there are so many in gardens where I live and they look wonderful. Really big red blooms. I've just GOT to have one! My 2 Rhodes have yet to flower but they did very well last year 😊😊

More buds on the #rhododendron #macro I've had a busy afternoon, have repotted 2 rhododendrons, 3 camellias, 4 Veronicas, 2 ceanothus (all pot bound) and planted the rest of the bulbs I've been accumulating. Very satisfying but had to go out for a second time for more compost 😁 Feet up time for a while

That's a good days work Julie 👍 i got loads done too but still waiting for dahlias in front to go over before daf bulbs go in could be end Oct at this rate!!! May just have to have a cull and take them out next wknd!! 😐

Thank you @rainygirl70 @bigemrg @jadojado29 and @pelly It was one of those jobs that I've been putting off in the hope that I'd get a raised beds in place this year. Those poor plants had been squashed up in the only pots I had available for over 3 years with all the house moves. Now I've planted some of the bigger plants I had nice roomy ones going spare ☺

@Keely I'm going to chance the dahlias and leave them in with a mulch of 🐎 💩 💩💩 Sounds like lots of us have been busy bees today

@vec its worth a try, i did same one year and some came back some didn't. i need space still got perennials to go in before I put spring bulbs n plants in, i have to swop wallflowers n bulbs for dahlias each year but got so many plants this year seriously running out of border 😀😀😀
