Late to the party but love the #dahlia day today! Have seen some stunning ones. Here’s mine which has thrived despite the wind damage and even some of the cuttings I took from the broken trunks have taken, so more for next year!
Such a stunning one! Looks like it’s glowing 🤩
Looks like a sunset
Hooray!! A happy ending after all the ups and downs she brought you! X
@kez001uk she does glow. A wonderful blend of pink and orange that just doesn’t show up on the phone camera. @kylers it’s sunset colours but it also reminds me of the old Fruit Salad sweets we got here in the UK when I was little 😂
@ktcooki276 yes thank goodness and I am hoping there will be more for next year. We shall see!
@victorial it does have those pinky/yellow tones of fruit salad sweets 😅😋
@kez001uk 😂

Remember my dahlia disaster just before holiday? The first dahlia broke and I carefully took cuttings, used your advice (thanks all) and carefully replanted. When I came home, the other dahlia had also broken and in my frustration, I picked up the stems and shoved them in the ground supported by a plant support and left them. The cuttings have all died but the ones I shoved in the ground are flourishing and flowering. Go figure! 01-09-19
Awe that's great news least you still get to enjoy them as it's a beautiful colour 💞💛
@Keely it’s lovely! Just funny they responded to me being cross and rough 😂
Wow that's amazing! I couldn't believe it when a french marigold of mine snapped completely off so I put it un water and it re-rooted itself and I replanted and now its HUGE! !! I'd never have thought dahlia could though. I was so sorry for you the other day!! I have my own selection of #winddamage!! X
@ktcooki276 thankfully a couple of my cuttings have now rooted, making the process worthwhile but at the time I was so mad! Glad some of the plant has flourished and hopefully next year will be better plus I’ll have more established plants to create wind shelter! Not so bitter about it now!

Noooooooooo! Last night’s storm casualty was my brand new and possibly favourite plant! Do #dahlia’s root from the stem? Assuming not but worth a shot?
Oh what a shame Victoria 😥 Try taking some cuttings asap 👍🏻😉
@flof1952 I’ve never done that before! That was on next year’s list of skills to learn and I’m going away tomorrow 🤦♀️
@auricula I am gutted! Was my fave new plant, bees were loving it and even my hubby was in favour!
The tubers in the ground should still be ok Victoria so you haven't lost it completely 👍🏻🙂
@flof1952 thank you! Fingers crossed! I have a second one which is thus far in tact
What a shame 😔 but yes you can use the stems as cuttings and create lots more new ones 😁
@hayleyaj nothing like learning to make cuttings in the few hours before a road trip 🤦♀️
Hey sometimes less is more! Hope your successful! Let me know. And enjoy wherever you are off too 😁
Cut stem above a leaf node and remove all but top leaves, if big, cut those leaves in half. Cuttings should be about 3-4inches. Cover with a plastic bag to retain moisture so they root. Or you could pop in a glass of water then plant up once rooted 😁
Oh nooo! 😭😭😭
@hayleyaj it is currently upright in a vase of water and then I’ll work out what the heck I’m going to do in the morning! All this advice has been very helpful though thanks! It has also put paid to the one stem that survived the Clematis Wilt so I guess it was destined to come down 🤷♀️

The backs of these are just as beautiful as the front with their chocolate ‘flower’ where the bud had opened. Good job too because they’ll all facing away from the patio doors having opened 🤦♀️ #dahlia #pink #orange #flower #plantsforpollinators 08-08-19

New #dahlia is a big hit with the #bumblebees, even before I planted it! #plantsforpollinators #bumblebee #bee #pollinator 04-08-19

Say hello to my new beauties picked up from the garden centre today! The colour is indescribable and I fell totally in love. Gorgeous chocolate brown foliage too. Two added to the garden 03-08-19. Only problem is that the foliage doesn’t match my new fence colour 🤦♀️
I got a pink one. Beautiful series of dahlias 😍😍
That’s beautiful Victoria 💗🧡
@ublaszko oh wow! Sounds lovely. Even my husband approved of this choice and he claims indifference to flowers! @pelly thank you very much - I am very pleased with it! No good for my strive for native plants though. I have such good intentions and such strong impulse purchase drive!

😂😂😂
It's surprising how many men get into gardening because of dahlias. 😅 My partner is still unswayed but I'll find the dahlia just for him 😅😈
It may not be native but these open flowered dahlias are good for all sorts of pollinators. I have some fully double dahlias and they're no good for bees or such but my Mystic Dreamer has been a big hit! 👍👍
@ublaszko ha! Good to know - I shall keep at him with various plants and hopefully he’ll end up hooked. He is more amenable now than when I started in May. They’re not even planted yet and already bumblebees, honey bees and a butterfly have visited so 👌
I've been trying for the last 4 years and so far I managed to get my partner to sit out on the garden bench 😂😂
@ublaszko ha! I’ve got my Other Half participating, albeit under duress. He helps me with all the heavy digging, pruning, mowing etc. It’s just I take pleasure in it and he doesn’t!
😂😂 👍 My OH participates in the garden in so far as to supurrvise the cat 😂 Pudgycat is too scared to be in the garden by herself 😅 Crazy town!
Myriad of new flowers have bloomed in the garden since Monday despite the wet weather and wind. First up my #dahlia has a new flower 25-09-19
