May i ask how old cactus is? And apart from potting on is there a way to accelerate growth 🤓

@krishnahairdo I was given it in 1999, probably at 3-4 years old at that point (2 inches tall). It originally had four columns until my cat destroyed it. The bottom is a cutting of a middle chunk. That was five years ago. I plan to speed growth with more light, bigger pot and light fertilising in summer. They can actually grow quite fast in perfect conditions. Mainly I want flowers from it.

@linfoster don't worry, I was just trying not to be arty here haha it's actually with lots of company in our spare room surrounded by too many other plants! :)

Mm ineresting what fertiliser do you use? Do you put it outside in summer? Im asking as i have started a collection middle of last year and was wondering if i could speed up the growth. Ive tried germinating seeds but alas nothing and its been a long time! 😟

@krishnahairdo I have put them outside in the past when very sunny - the more sunlight and heat the better. But I don't overly worry about putting outside if on a windowsill with lots of direct sun onto the plants. I just use a balanced liquid fertiliser like Grow More (you only use a very dilute solution and less frequently than fast growing plants). But I know the professionals also use a potassium rich fertiliser to encourage flowering. I think as long as you don't use too much it's ok.

Thanks Steve, that certainly looks like it but I'm not sure the spines are the same. It has a cluster of them at each spot. It has a slightly glaucus blue sheen to it too. Looking at that site it might be a Pilocereus but not sure.

It was given to me by my grandparents in 1999 but had no label. It's been through the wars, it's actually a cutting now - a survivor of a kitten attack. Cacti shatter like dropped cucumbers! 😄😄

I was also thinking it could be a Pilocereus.

I think it is likely that it is Pilosocereus glaucochrous - but pls correct me if wrong. Thanks for your help everyone :)

@brightcolours by the comments about the blue colour, I would think Pilosocereus sp would be accurate.
