I'm going to hazard a guess and say it may be about to produce buds. The growth on mine definitely doesn't look as thick as this. I normally associate thicker, fluffy looking growth with flowers 😊

It looks like you're getting some rapid new growth out of the top. I don't really see signs of flowering as echinocereus don't flower from the very top, they put out little stocks. It's very pretty 😍

@SpicyCactus thanks a bunch, I am new to this genus. I mostly collect soft succulents. Funny how it's just all of a sudden started doing that this week! 🤩

Seems like you're doing something right ☺️. We have several echinocereus species in Texas where I'm from and they typically grow during the winter and flower in early spring. What part of this earth are you located?

@SpicyCactus it must be confused as it's heat of summer at the moment with 40 degree celcius heat 😅! 😂 I am in Australia, South West Victoria.
