@lisacollection, to answer your question, I use a good potting mix that has glad course builder sand and half potting mix. Don't water when the leaves are about to split. The roots go dormant then and the plant absorb all of the water from the out leaves into the inner leaves. If you water in that phase the roots reactivate and takes up water which often leads to rot. Also, water more in winter than summer as they are winter growers. 😊
