#Sempervivum #sempervivum-edgeofnight #sempervivumedgeofnight #edgeofnight #cesarepark 19.06.18 - mealy really, really likes sempes. 😠 I keep picking them off every few days. They have a systemic pesticide now - let’s see how you go with that you little MF’s. 👌🏻
Beautiful!
depending on the insecticide used there is less than a 60% mortality. dependent on light levels & growth stage of plant. also chemical is persistant in soil so hard to prevent contamination. dipping whole plant in neem oil solution is safer.mealeys can live near 2 months without feeding.
@moore.794 - Hey Terry, hope you’re well! I don’t use neem oil on my Succulents at all. My plants are all in pots and flowers removed when I use systemics. I have over 80 semps in this pot, there is no way I will pull it apart now. I use systemic once every 14 days for up to 12 weeks as well as a topical spray. It has been working very well.
what chemical are you using?
@moore.794 - Confidor, active ingredient imidacloprid.
you are using incorrectaly. only allowed 3 applications in one year. this chemical is highly persistant in the enviroment allowing contamination of water table. it stays in pots & soil so every time you touch you are adsorbing the chemical. by using as you are you are creating resistant mealybug population. if it was working you would only need 3 treatments & there would be no bugs. please do further reading using university sites where testing was done & try to use organic when possible.
@moore.794 - I am following the instructions. It has worked on my other pots with only one application. First application on this pot. If you read my initial comment, I have been picking them off up to now on this particular pot. I appreciate that you are trying to help and I respect your choices in how to treat your plants, please respect mine. 😊
i'm sorry you stated that you every 14 days for up to 12 weeks. thats what i was basing my statement on. i worked on the original research done on imidicloprid.
@moore.794 - that’s ok, I have over 600 Succulents. I treat them all slightly differently. I use different forms of the product, they do have different doses etc. so far I have only had one plant that have needed a reapplication. You may also not have seen my scattered comments on the other plants I have treated. In all cases I have tried other methods first such as reporting, washing the roots and plant and alcohol. Only for the bugs to keep returning. Once those plants have had their first tbc
@moore.794 application, the problem went away. With the sempervivum it’s harder. I have them all in a giant pot so repotting is just not really an option. I have been picking them off etc. This is the first application of the systemic product on them as my original comment said. We will need to see how it goes. It may very well be that I do need to resoil and report as well as use other methods. I hope not though
